Eviction
From Big Brother USA
Eviction is the method of exit for a non-winning contestant on Big Brother. An Eviction is considered a different process than Banishment as in Big Brother 2000.
Two people are nominated for eviction each week, as determined both by Head of Household's initial nominations, and the results of a Power of Veto ceremony.
Eviction votes are held in the Diary Room. Initially, the votes were pre-recorded and then aired during the course of the live show, then performed live later in the season. Live votes began occurring earlier and earlier in the season, until eventually, with Big Brother 9, all eviction votes were held live.
[edit] Announcing the results
Once the votes have been recorded, host Julie Chen announces the results live to the house. For example...
Just a reminder: when I announce the results, the evicted HouseGuest has only a minute to gather their belongings, say their goodbyes and walk out the front door. By a vote of 6-2... Michelle, you have been evicted from the Big Brother House.
On rare occasions, Julie will change this spiel to awkwardly cause confusion and temporary shock to the House.
By a vote of 8-0... Jessie... you are safe--Angie, you have been evicted from the Big Brother House.
[edit] After Eviction
Immediately after being announced as evicted, the HouseGuest says their goodbyes and walks out the front door. There is a short corridor between the entryway of the house and the actual 'front door' of the compound. This is so that production assistants can quickly adjust any microphones or provide any other assistance before the HouseGuest walks out of the door.
From this point, the evictee has a short interview with Julie Chen and watches taped goodbye messages from his or her former housemates. After some parting words, Julie throws to commercial. After the live show comes down, Julie has a further, extended interview with the evictee to air the next morning on The Early Show. Afterwards, the evictee has a series of interviews with House Calls: The Big Brother Talk Show and selected Internet websites and magazines. At this point, the HouseGuest is either released back to their daily lives and families, or in the case of Jury members, is transported to the secret location of the Jury House.
